What Is Community At Evergreen?

Community is essential to how we grow in faith.
We believe spiritual growth happens best through intentional relationships, not in isolation. Our church community is built around five connected levels that move from large corporate worship gatherings, to Sunday School classes, to intimate LifeGroups, to discipleship relationships, to ultimately a personal abiding relationship with Jesus. If you’re looking to get connected and dive deeper alongside others, we invite you to explore Sunday School and LifeGroups. Sunday School offers a welcoming space to study the Bible and ask questions in a smaller group setting, while LifeGroups provide a more personal environment to share life, study Scripture together, and build genuine relationships centered on Christ.

The Five Levels of Community

We organize church life around five levels of community that help people grow from personal faith into shared life with others. These levels are designed to support spiritual formation through increasing connection and engagement.

Level 1:

Personal Abiding Relationship with Jesus

A healthy community begins with abiding in Christ. This relationship is the foundation for all spiritual growth.

Key Practices:
  • Private prayer and solitude (Matthew 6:6; Luke 5:16).
  • Rest and preparation through prayer (Mark 135-39; Matthew 14:23).
  • Facing trials with prayer (Matthew 26:36-46).

Level 2:

Discipleship Relationships

Discipleship is a calling for all believers, requiring vulnerability and intentionality to build deeper spiritual relationships.

Key Practices:
  • Weekly or bi-weekly meetings for study and encouragement.
  • Modeled by Jesus with Peter, James, and John (Luke 5:1-11; Matthew 26:36-56).
  • Mentorship and shared ministry (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).

Level 3:

Intimate Small Groups/ LifeGroups

Small groups foster deep connections, accountability, and practical growth in faith.

Key Practices:
  • Regular gatherings for teaching, fellowship, and service (Acts 2:42-47).
  • Jesus' intentional teaching to the 12 disciples (Mark 3:13-19).
  • Addressing spiritual and practical needs (Matthew 15:32-39; Luke 22:35-38).

Level 4:

Small Community Group/ Sunday School

Small community groups serve as the backbone for ministry and outreach, requiring strong, intentional leadership.

Key Practices:
  • Meeting practical needs and supporting benevolence efforts (Acts 6:1-7).
  • Encouraging corporate worship and discipleship (Ephesians 5:19; Galatians 6:10).
  • Protecting the group from division and promoting unity (Romans 16:17-20).

Level 5:

Large Corporate Events/ Worship Services

Large gatherings showcase Christ's love to the world, drawing people into a relationship with Him.

Key Practices:
  • Encouraging culture through compassion, teaching, and meeting needs (Matthew 25:31-46; Mark 6:34).
  • Public worship and testimony (Hebrews 10:24-25; Matthew 21:12-17).
  • Encouraging community wide gatherings (Acts 2:44-47).
