Life Groups

Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

What Are Life Groups About?

The purpose of Life Groups is to provide an environment where members can experience healthy small group community and spiritual growth. Life Groups are small groups of people that consist of roughly 8-14 members who meet together weekly to do life with one another.

Four Cornerstones of Life Groups

Acts 2:42; 46-47 “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers... Every day they devoted themselves to meet together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude, praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved.”

The Word

Life Group Shepherds will have freedom to lead their group in godly discussion that is rooted in scripture. Options include, but are not limited to:

  • Reading through the Bible as a group
  • Having discussion over the Sunday Morning Sermon Series
  • RightNow Media Studies
  • Other studies Shepherds have found (with approval from S.O.S.)

Fellowship & Meal

Scheduled fellowship is a great time to share life with one another as it creates an open space to talk about everyday happenings with each member of the group. Fellowship can happen during a meal before discussion begins or in planned fellowships that happen outside regularly scheduled meeting times. Meals are to be planned by the Shepherds, whether it is
to have a potluck or to rotate who is in charge of snacks each meeting. Meals are not necessary, but can be found to be a very beneficial element to Life Group Fellowship.

Prayer & Worship

Prayer is an important part of sharing life together as the group meets with God. Prayer can be a time of worship and adoration or a time of intercession and requests. There will be resources and training to help equip shepherds in the area of prayer for the group, so it is not a time of talking about trials but move beyond the standard practice of prayer requests. Worship as a group is a powerful way to create spiritual bonds. Worship can consist of a musician in the group leading in song or spending time praising God through the act of prayer. There will be resources available to assist with these elements.

Ministry & Witness

One way to build long lasting relationships is through serving one another and keeping one another active in the area of sharing Jesus with others. Evergreen has countless options in how Life Groups can serve with one another in various ministries and projects. Shepherds can contact their S.O.S. or the Discipleship Pastor for ideas.
